The blog I didn’t post…

I bailed on my post last week. It was a Halloween post and it was meant to be light and a good reminder that our teens are still just kids. But then I crashed out on my volleyball team and felt like a total fraud. I ended up posting a mini blog on my Instagram @teenconnectionsconsulting - if you aren’t following. I just wanted to be transparent… so here it is.

Mini Blog Post!!!

No blog this week, I wrote it, but was super busy coaching… and wasn’t happy with it- so I will sum it up with a post!

First of all- it’s Playoff’s Baby!!! My volleyball season is always the busiest time of year for me so I scaled back on Teen Connections and just focused on a weekly blog post to stay engaged! That being said, a grueling tournament practice and 2 playoff games this week meant something had to give!  The second reason it had to go was because I didn’t love the way I wrote it and the third is because I crashed out on my team and basically neglected my own advice!

So here is a snippet of my blog and the story about the crash out!

Halloween has this special way of reminding us that our teens are still just…kids. The costumes, the candy trading, the excitement of being out with friends in the dark — that pure joy hasn’t gone anywhere just because they now fit into adult-sized costumes….

Teens toggle between middle school humor and mini-adult debates! They are in between two worlds and it’s beautiful and frustrating- and 100% normal and where they are supposed to be!

All of that being said, I still failed at acknowledging that this week.

I crashed out on my team 😫 After  making it to the next round of playoffs, our game was scheduled for today- HALLOWEEN- and instead of being excited for the next round and proud of their accomplishments, they whined and complained that it was on Halloween- “really!!??”

I lost it! They are athletes and this is playoffs. Who cares about Halloween??? But they do care! They are still kids and it’s still Halloween and it does suck! I should have mourned with them and motivated them to move towards a “we are all in this together” mentality. I know this- and yet, I failed in the moment.

Excellent reminder to me and everyone else, that we are all human and we make mistakes.

I need my own advice all the time!

So, I’m following my own advice and apologizing to my team, buying them lots of candy and getting on the bus!
